First Post - Painting Project!

I'm currently working on a project through wetcanvas.com (a GREAT site, BTW) where 25 members have signed up to participate; this involves sending each participant (all 25!) a 4" X 6" postcard of an original piece of art. So far I've received something in almost every medium - oils, coloured pencil, graphite, pencil, acrylics, ink and watercolour. It is great fun, and I'm collecting some fantastic art!

I'm using this project to try out new things I haven't done before, such as animal and human portraits, still life, and to practice things I am used to painting such as landscapes and florals. Somehow trying new things on a 4X6" size is less intimidating. Not so much empty white paper to stare at, lol. I've managed to paint 5 and send them out. Sometimes it is hard to let go of a painting if I really like it - so it is good practice to be forced to let them go. Not before scanning them first, of course! So far I've just done them in watercolour, but am planning to do a few in other mediums as well. Above is one of the paintings I've sent out - it is quite stylized, from a photograph by a wetcanvas.com member that I will name once the site comes back up and I can check it out!

Wetcanvas has a large library of photographs that other members can use as a basis for their artwork, and are royalty free as they are donated by the members themselves who took them.

More pictures later!

Cheers,
Barb
